BUMI JAYA SHIPCARE SDN BHD (BJSC), incorporated in April 2009 provides technical &operational services to the maritime, oil, and gas industries. We started with expertise in Ship-To-Ship operations progressing to providing a wide range of services including equipment rental, technical advice, and manpower.

Bumi Jaya Shipcare management team consists of experienced Master Mariners served in command as Master on a variety of ship types, Marine Engineers with broad knowledge and experience in the fields of marine combining onshore and offshore ship and rig lay-up operation services.

The fundamental Bumi Jaya Shipcare philosophy is to provide our client with experienced Marine Superintendents, Master Mariners, Marine Engineers, and Marine Inspectors who are on-call round the clock to providing reliable, efficient, professional, independent, and advanced services to the industry.

THE MANAGEMENT

Pn Siti Hajar Ishak (Director)

Ms. Siti Hajar Ishak, a seasoned finance professional who joined the company as Director in 2009. Subsequently also assumed the position as Group Chief Financial Officer overseeing the companies’ accounts, financial, administrative, and corporate matters.

Before joining BJSC, she was Head of Finance in the Shipping Department with JP Logistics Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Johor Port Bhd for 5 years. She began her career at Johor Carton Industries Sdn Bhd in 2002. The turning point in her career came in 2004 as she switched to the shipping industry. She joined Geniki Lines Sdn Bhd as Accounts Executive where she gained new exposure and experience in a Ship Owning Company. Bagging over 6 years of experience in shipping, logistics and marine services Siti, embarked into corporate directorship with Bumi Jaya Shipcare Sdn Bhd and its group of companies.

Ms. Siti Hajar holds a Bachelor of Accounting (Second Class Upper with Class Honour’s) degree from University Kebangsaan Malaysia and a master’s in business administration (with Distinction) from University Teknologi Malaysia. Ms. Siti Hajar is also a Chartered Accountant and a member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA).

Capt Ben Bakar (Shareholder)

Captain Ben is a Master Mariner with 15 years of sailing experience mainly on Tankers, Container vessels, and with 10 over years’ experience in Oil & Gas and Third-Party Logistics (3PL) industry. He has vast working experience in shipping and maritime services covering such areas as port management and operations dealing with the handling of petroleum products, chemical, dry bulk, and containerized cargo. He has wide knowledge and expertise in international project logistics in particularly in the South-east Asia Region. Extensive capabilities in heavy transportation, cross border logistics service, customs clearance, offshore logistics services.

He also has extensive experience in spot, time charter, and contract of affreightment transactions which enables him to have strong contacts and connections with ship owners and international trading houses.

Qualified out of the Malaysian Maritime Academy (ALAM), he also holds an MSc in Transport Planning. Over his career Captain Ben has attended numerous courses in O&G, Safety, and Marine Management. Beginning his profession as a Cadet Officer in MISC, he served with NOL and Global Carriers. His Port Management experience was through Johor Port Bhd as Head of the Department for Strategic Planning. He set up JP Logistics a subsidiary of Johor Port Bhd and planned and managed the rice and sugar importation supply chain with BERNAS Logistics Sdn Bhd. While in Johor Port Bhd, Captain Ben was heavily involved in Oil Rig layup management for 22 rigs and 36 vessels. At Lima Bintang Sdn Bhd, Captain Ben is Managing Director in charge of the management and operations of the 3PL provider.

Capt K. Sugumaran ( Marine Consultant )

Captain K Sugumaran (Sugu) is a Master Mariner with over 28 years’ experience in the shipping and marine survey sectors. Beginning his career as a deck cadet with NOL in 1998 subsequently with American Eagle Tankers where he was First Officer. In 1997, he joined Intertech Testing services Caleb Brett – Malaysia as Marine Coordinator/Marine Operation Manager.

Following this, Captain Sugu served as Master on Board for Oil & Chemical Tankers. After six years at sea as Ships’ Master, Captain Sugu joined Asia Pacific Marine Consultancy as Regional Branch Manager.

In 2004, he took the position of General Manager of Northsea Inspection &Survey. He is also the director and shareholder in four other companies interlinked to this group. In Survey and inspection, Captain Sugu carried out independent marine inspections and surveys, combining onshore and offshore surveys and consultancy. His local knowledge added high value in Tank cleaning consultancy for vessels entering dry-dock & tank repair, insurance, marine, engineering, and loss prevention.

With extensive hands-on experience on crude and product oil tankers including ship repair and maintenance, Captain Sugu prepared tanker vessels for ISM, Port State control, Class, USCG, and Oil Major Inspections.

First qualifying out of the Singapore Polytechnic in 1988, Captain Sugu gained his Certificate of Competency Class 3 & 2 form the Malaysian Maritime Academy (ALAM) between 1990 & 1991. In 1994, he got a Master Mariner – Foreign Going Class 1 certification. He also holds an Advanced Diploma in Applied Science.

R. Sivanason ( Finance Consultant )

R Sivanason (Siva) is a ports and logistics expert with over 30 years’ experience in port development, logistics, transportation, and supply chain security. The last seven years were in Supply Chain Security at ports. He has consulted in major ports development and port privatizations like Westport, Port of Mundra, Gujarat, Port of Dar Es Salaam, Tanga and Mtwara in Tanzania and with the Port Klang Authority.

Commencing his ports career in 1995, he started at Westport, as infrastructure Accountant, he oversaw finance for the entire port’s development. He was then made head of section for the Container Terminal marketing. While in Westport he oversaw the development and construction of the Container Freight Station (CFS), the Westport Distripark, and Westport Bunkering Services where he held the positions as a director in charge of development and marketing. Subsequently, he was CFO/COO for a ports service provider (equipment and manpower) at Westport, Johor Port and Port of Tanjung Pelepas. While serving at Westport, Siva wrote the entire blueprint and consulted for the privatization of the Ports of Dar Es Salam, Tanga and Mtwara. In Gujarat, India, Siva consulted in the development of the Container Terminal for the Port of Munda.

He has also served as an economist with an international civil society organization in 2000 and 2001 to advise developing countries on international trade and WTO agreements particularly on Agriculture, Intellectual Property, Anti-dumping, and Competition Policy. In 2009, Siva moved horizontally into Supply Chain Security, where he worked with big names like American Science & Engineering (AS&E, USA), S2Global (USA), Nuctech (China), Qinetiq (UK), Portcullis Technologies (Singapore) and TWG (UK). His experience spans the design, development, and implementation of effective methodologies for seamless non- intrusive inspection and training at locations like Maldives, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Sierra Leone (Airport), and Mauritius. While working in supply chain security, Siva has developed traffic and document flow designs for efficient and holistic cargo movement.

He currently consults on finance and operations on ports, marine services, and logistics to several organizations locally and regionally. He is also an adviser to a few organizations on Single Window design and development.

Before this Siva held various finance positions in the UK. Based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia he is an Associate Financial Accountant (UK) and holds an MBA from the University of Hull (UK).
